Dr. John C. Baldinger

Dr. Baldinger is a graduate of Emory University (BA in Chemistry) and Vanderbilt University (MD 1980).  He completed his internal medicine internship at the University of Pittsburgh in 1981 and his residency training in ophthalmology at The Eye and Ear Hospital of Pittsburgh in 1984.  He also served as a vitreoretinal fellow at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School in 1985-1986. His training in vitreoretinal disease provides expertise in eye disease from the front to the back of the eye.  He has been board certified in ophthalmology since 1986. 

 

For over 30 years, Dr. Baldinger has been one of the busiest cataract surgeons in the DC Metropolitan area performing over 50,000 cataract surgeries.  In 2021, he was named by his peers as one of the top 100 ophthalmologists in the United States according to Newsweek.  

 

He is medical director at our clinic and presently Chief of Ophthalmology at the Fairfax Surgical Center.  He also serves on their Medical  Executive Committee.  He has also served on the Ophthalmology Advisory Committee for the HCA ambulatory division, helping to set safe practice policies for its 130 ambulatory surgery centers.  Dr. Baldinger has traveled to Central America as a volunteer to perform pterygium surgery.

    

In the last three decades, cataract surgery has seen tremendous improvements and Dr. Baldinger has always been on the forefront of technology.  Presently, Dr. Baldinger offers the option of femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery; multifocal, toric, and standard lenses, as well as glaucoma MIGS procedures.   

 

In his spare time, Dr. Baldinger enjoys traveling, fishing, and bicycling.
